Listen to the words.....they are so relevant even today. As I listened again to this song I was thinking of the persecution of Christians going on right now, and what strong faith they have to face the nightmare they are living and not deny their faith in Christ. Even little children telling the Muslim terrorists , "No, I love Jesus", when the Islamists try forcing them to deny their Christianity and become Muslims.
"Some through the water, some through the fire" says this song. Those
Christians are experiencing the fires at this very moment, all ages -
tiny babies, young children, teens, adults. Very few have recanted their
Christian faith..... often leading them through the fires and waters of
torture and death.
They are trusting God to give them strong courage to keep standing in their faith in Christ, not to deny Him. They are trusting God to give them strength and courage to suffer through torture and/or death. They are truly trusting God to "lead them along" through their "fires", sometimes quite literal fires.
My faith is strengthened as I see these people not bend under the terrors they are facing, even as I fearfully ask myself if I could "stand" and not give in.
"Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always." (the Bible - Psalm 105:4 - NIV). That's the answer I give myself: depend on God to carry me through the fires we may all be facing in the not too far future. Trust, trust, trust that God WILL be there to "lead me along", to give me courage ... as He must be doing with these persecuted Christians who are so bravely clinging to their Christian faith, even to the point of death.
My heart goes out to them, as well as my prayers.
